My story with health and healing began when my husband found out he had gluten sensitivity. Before that, I lived what I thought was a healthy life. But what I see now is that my main concern was to not gain weight. I didn’t really care about how certain types of foods could affect my body now and in the future.

 

So, I started to read more about food and nutrition. I was still just trying to find ways to have an appealing gluten-free diet, but without even knowing it, I was also falling in love with cooking and bringing the best foods to our dining-room table.

 

But how did this become my career? This is a long story. I was born, raised, and educated in Brazil. After graduating law school, I became a lawyer and was working for the Brazilian government. I wasn’t passionate about my job, but I didn’t spend much time thinking about it. I just went to work, like people must do. Law was part of my life and I thought it was what I was supposed to do.

 

But in 2013 my life turned upside down. During a vacation to the U.S., I met the love of my life. Everything was magical, but I couldn’t stay. I had to return to my life in Brazil. We kept up a long-distance relationship for a while—I came to visit him, he visited me, we stayed apart, I came to visit him, he visited me. And on it went, until we decided that if we wanted to be together, we needed to stay together (same country, same city, same home). So, in 2014 I moved to Los Angeles, and we got married. And now what? What would a Brazilian lawyer, who doesn’t even like law that much, do in a different country, with a completely different legal system?

 

We decided I would take my time, go back to school if necessary, and finally find the career that would make me feel complete and happy every time I went to work.

 

And one day, while searching on Google for something totally unrelated to “What I want to be when I grow up” I had an “a-ha” moment. I saw the words holistic nutritionist and my mind told me, That’s it! That’s what I want to do.

 

I was already immersed in the infinite universe of food and nutrition, and having so much fun reading and learning about so many interesting things. I knew that was where my future lay.

 

It was time to go back to school, and that’s how I found the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and its Health Coach Training Program. During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, learned so much about nutrition and our bodies—and the most important thing: I learned how real health is not just about what you eat and how many supplements you take. Every aspect of your life—your relationships, career, exercise, quality of sleep, and all the rest–has an influence on your health, your weight and your energy.

 

My journey is just starting. Every day I try to learn more and more to help my clients, my family and me to achieve a healthier, happier and better life.

 

But what does this mean? What does a healthy, happy, better life look like? I believe in balance. For example, do I still crave sugar? Yes, sometimes. Not every day, like I used to. But when the craving strikes me, how do I respond? It’s your response that is critical. Rather than zeroing in on the first pastry I see, I take a considered approach and always try to find the healthiest option available, one that is tasty and satisfying, but also does not harm my lifestyle goals.

 

That is how I want to help my clients. I want to furnish them with the knowledge and strength to live their lives with health, energy, and, the most important, happiness.
